LANCASTER, PA.—June, 2009. Maxima Technologies & Systems, LLC (Maxima) introduced a new J1939 Diesel Exhaust Fluid ("DEF") gauge for vehicles using Tier IV engines with Selective Catalytic Reduction ("SCR") tanks. Derived from Maxima's Direct Data-Bus Instrument (DDBI™) line, the new DEF gauge offers a standalone solution for OEMs, in that it can be directly connected to the vehicle bus network—no instrument controller or "gateway" required.

The DDBI™ gauge measures DEF (a.k.a. urea) levels in the SCR tank. Two "trim" levels are available—low-level #1 and #2—with a red LED indicator, activated as required. Units come with or without color bands. Pointers are lighted, with LEDs. Units are also totally sealed.

There are also analog versions of the product, based on the same DDBI™ platform."

Our DDBI™ line served as the ideal platform for the new DEF gauge," says Michael Stoeckel, Maxima's vice president-sales. "The gauge's architecture offers a standalone solution for OEMs via a direct connection to the vehicle's CAN-bus network. This means that for vehicles already using an instrument cluster or gauges, they now have a reliable tool for measuring DEF levels without having to redesign the existing instrumentation and spending a fortune in the process. The gauge also rounds out the DDBI™ line for a complete data-bus gauge panel assembly."
